Betty Marie Hayes

Betty Marie Hayes, 84, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Hickory Creek of Scottsburg. She was born on September 1, 1932 in Scott County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Walter William and Elizabeth Mae (Riley) Deal. She was a long-time employee of Scottsburg City Hall and served two terms as Clerk Treasurer of Scottsburg before retiring. She had also worked for the U.S. Census Bureau in Jeffersonville and was co-owner of Don’s Package Store in Scottsburg for many years. She graduated from Austin High School in 1950 and was a member of the Scottsburg First Baptist Church. Betty was married on May 20, 1950 to Donald Curtis Hayes, who passed away on January 9, 2011. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Penny McCoskey and a grandson, Jason McCoskey. Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Martin and her husband Don of Douglasville, Georgia and Debra Allen and her husband Terry of Scottsburg, Indiana; two brothers, William Deal and Bobby Deal both of Scottsburg, Indiana; five grandchildren, Jessica Allen-Feder (Kevin), Evan Allen, Justin Martin, Christopher Martin (Kim), and Ryan Davis and great grandchildren Brandon McCoskey and Hayes Feder.

Funeral Service:
11:00 am Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Collins Funeral Home with burial in Scottsburg Cemetery.
Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Tuesday and after 9 am Wednesday.
