Daniel P. "Danny" Barnes

Daniel P. “Danny” Barnes, 71, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at his residence. He was born on January 29, 1943 in Lyons Station, Kentucky, the son of the late William R. and Nancy Ann (Fisher) Barnes. Danny was a retired employee of Cummins Engine Company working at both Columbus and Seymour (IN) Plants and was also a farmer. He served during the Vietnam War as a SP5 in the U.S. Army and attended the Scaffold Lick Baptist Church near Blocher, Indiana. Danny was among the founding members of the old First Southern Baptist Church in Scottsburg, Indiana and a member of the Diesel Workers Union. He was preceded in death by five brothers, William, Robert, Lanny, Donald and Kenneth Barnes and a sister, Phyllis DeWitt. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Carolyn Sue (Green) Barnes; two sons, Philip R. Barnes (Misty) of Austin, Indiana and Stephen D. Barnes (Catherine) of Knoxville, Tennessee; two daughters, Teresa K. Barnes (Michael Murphy) of Shelbyville, Kentucky and Julie A. Thomas (Mark) of Scottsburg, Indiana; two brothers, Wayne and Gary Barnes both of New Haven, Kentucky; a sister, Mary Ann Herron of Louisville, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Stephen Barnes, II, Jennifer Barnes, Clay Kelley, Kendra Brown and Molly Barnes and four step grandchildren, Lindsay and Ashley Thomas and Torian (TJ) and Jon Michael Murphy. Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Tuesday and after 9 am Wednesday.

Funeral Service: 11:00 am Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Collins Funeral Home with burial in Scottsburg Cemetery.

To the Barnes Family, I want you all to know that my prayers are for comfort and peace knowing Bro. Barnes is in the arms of Jesus. His life and even the way he held in there to the end shows that only God could have allow it to be so. Sis.
