Denzel "Ralph" Gary

Denzel “Ralph” Gary, 77, of Lexington, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born on November 16, 1936 in Butler County, Kentucky, the son of the late R. O. Gary Sr. and Hettie B. (Embry) Gary. Ralph was a retired Electrician A for Louisville Gas & Electric, retiring in 1992 after 36 years. He and his wife were also the former owners of the old Gary’s Oil Company at the corner of State Roads # 3 and # 362 near Nabb, Indiana. They missed their patrons who supported their business and became their friends. He was a member of the Kimberlin Creek Baptist Church, where he had served as a trustee and on the building committee. He and his wife also hosted many youth events at their home when his children were involved in the American Baptist Youth Group. Ralph began treatment in Alcoholic Anonymous on Feb. 15, 1984 and celebrated 30 years at a gathering with family, friends and other AA members. Ralph was instrumental in helping many alcoholics seeking recovery. He was preceded in death by two brothers, W.T. Gary and R.O. Gary, Jr. and two sisters, Christine Carroll and Kathalene Pence. Survivors include his wife, Janice L. (Whited) Gary; three sons, Ralph D. Gary of Scottsburg, Indiana, Robert O. Gary and his wife Michelle of Marysville, Indiana and Randall Gary of Lexington, Indiana; a daughter, Karen B. Brunner and her husband Tim of Scottsburg, Indiana; a brother, David Gary and his wife Christine of Louisville, Kentucky; 14 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and his dog, Crash. Funeral Service: 2:00 pm Sunday at Collins Funeral Home with burial in Kimberlin Creek Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Saturday and after noon Sunday.
