Derek Lee Jones, 31, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at at Scott Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on May 30, 1988 in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Derek graduated from Scottsburg High School in 2007 and participated in the SHS Band of Warriors. His senior year, Derek served as the State Student Council President. After high school, he attended Indiana University for two years and then transferred and graduated from Sullivan University earning his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and IT. He was a Senior Asset Manager for New Hope Services in Jeffersonville, Indiana before his illness and had also worked in Human Resources and the Finance Departments at Pharmerica in Louisville, Kentucky and as a Catastrophic Claims Adjustor for Liberty Mutual/Safeco Insurance Company in Louisville, Kentucky Derek was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Leota, Indiana, was a Master Mason and member of the Scottsburgh Lodge # 572 F & AM. He enjoyed boating,water sports, four wheeling, music and playing the piano. Derek was preceded in death by his brother, Dustin Lee “Dusty” Jones and his grandparents, Kenny and Carol Jones and Jerry and Barbara Comer. Survivors include his parents, Terry and Cindy Jones of Scottsburg, Indiana; several aunts, uncles and cousins, including Tyler Comer who grew up around him. Memorial Contributions may be given to the Dustin and Derek Jones Memorial Fund or the Bethel Baptist Kitchen Fund or the Bethel Cemetery Fund c/o Collins Funeral Home, 465 W. Funeral Service: 11:00 am on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Bethel Baptist Church in Leota, Indiana with Phil LaMaster and Bruce Bridgewater officiating. Visitation: 4 to 8 pm on Friday at Collins Funeral Home and after 9 am on Saturday at the Bethel Baptist Church. Interment will be in Bethel Baptist Cemetery.
