Donald E. Scroggin, Sr., 72, of Hanover, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison, Indiana. He was born on October 25, 1946 in Madison, Indiana, the son of the late Orville Fred Scroggin and Louella Mae (Denning) Scroggin. Don was married on April 20, 1968 to Mary Ruth (Lewis) Scroggin who preceded him in death on April 27, 2013. Don was a retired security guard for the old Madison State Hospital in Madison, Indiana, where he worked for 38 years. He served during the Vietnam War as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army and continued serving for 20 years in the Indiana Army Reserves retiring as a Staff Sergeant. Don attended the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Hanover, Indiana and was a member of the V.F.W. Post # 1969 in Madison, Indiana. He loved IU Basketball. WWE Wrestling, fishing, mowing, planting flowers and anything that involved the outdoors. Don married Anna L. (Ledbetter) Scroggin on Feb. 1, 2014. In addition to his first wife and parents, Don was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth K. Reid and three sisters, Betty Fox, Carol Snyder and Ellen Kennet. Survivors include his wife, Anna; a son, Donald E. Scroggin, Jr. and his wife Natalie of Hanover, Indiana; a daughter, Melissa Ann Leon-Vega amd her husband Martin Leon of HIlton Head, South Carolina; a stepson, Benjamin M. Smith and his wife Anna of Chelsea, Indiana; a brother, Orville Fred “Sonny” Scroggin, Jr. and his wife Karen of Madison, Indiana; two sisters, Dora Pauline Scroggin of Paoli, Indiana and Nancy Trowbridge and her husband Wayne of Glasgow, Kentucky; twenty one grandchildren, Aaron, Brittney, Krista, Kyle, Kolin, Zoe, Nicholas, Brianna, Shawn, Troy, Savanah, Taylor, Sarah, Kira, Alicia, Dakota, Faith, Brandon, Troy, Adam and Paisley and five great grandchildren, Elaina, Lillian, Nevaeh, Gracelynn and Darrell. Memorial Contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association c/o Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana.

Funeral Service: 1:00 pm Sunday, April 28, 2019 at Collins Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Johnson officiating. Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Saturday and after 11 am on Sunday. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery near Scottsburg, Indiana.
