Elizabeth Katherine Smith, 79, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Hampton Oaks Health Campus. She was born on January 7, 1938 in Krypton, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Charlie Maggard, Sr. and Ora (Napier) Maggard. Katherine graduated from Buckhorn High School and then earned an Associate’s Degree from Hazard Business College. She was a retired billing representative at Scott Memorial Hospital in Scottsburg, Indiana, where she worked for 20 years and attended the Elevation Church in Scottsburg, Indiana. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Jeanean Smith; nine brothers. Wallace, Sewell, John A., Wiley, Arliss, Jimmy, Charlie, Jr., Douglas, and Robert Maggard; and a sister, Juanita Young. Katherine was married on Sept. 12, 1959 to Colbert Smith, who survives. Survivors in addition to her husband include a daughter, Reba Herald and her husband Scott of Scottsburg, Indiana; a son, Roy Smith and his wife Charlotte of Phoenix, Arizona; a sister, Betty Ruth Pigman and her husband Carl of Lothair, Kentucky and three grandchildren, Skylar, Scarlett and Ethan Herald.

Funeral Service: 11:00 am Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Collins Funeral Home with burial in Scottsburg Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Wednesday and after 10 am Thursday at Collins Funeral Home.
