Esther Marie Stangle

Esther Marie Stangle, 86, of Lexington, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Hanover Health & Rehab Center in Hanover, Indiana. She was born on June 10, 1931 in Fort Ann, New York, the daughter of the late Lee Thayer and Amy (Rathbun) Thayer. Esther was a retired L.P.N. for Hanover Living Center and spent her entire life caring for others. After retirement she assisted local families in caring for loved ones in their homes. Esther was an avid camper and enjoyed NASCAR, especially Jeff Gordon # 24. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening and crafts. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Smith and Herbert Bennett; her only sibling, Gertrude Bennett; three sons, Robert, John and James Smith; a daughter, Sheila Sherwood; a grandson, Keifer Bennett, a granddaughter, Della LaBrake and her beloved sons in law, Walter Stamper and Patrick Columbetti. Survivors include two sons, Ronny Smith of Hudson Falls, New York and Benajah Bennett of Lexington, Indiana, who was also her caregiver; five daughters, Donna Stamper of Glens Falls, New York, Brenda LaCross (David) and Connie Columbetti all of Ft. Edward, New York, Deborah Mahoney (Richard) of Gansevoort, New York and Penny Ann LaCross (Ronald) of Argyle, New York; five stepsons, Gary and Terry Bennett and Lee Stangle all of Ft. Ann, New York, John Stangle of Indiana and David Stangle of New York City; three stepdaughters, Michelle LaBrake of Hudson Falls, New York, Ruth Smith and Loraina Stangle of Tyler, Texas; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and a niece and nephew.

Cremation services were entrusted to Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana and private graveside services will be held at a later date at Fort Ann Cemetery in Fort Ann, New York.
