Evelyn “Duffy” (Hayes) Akemon, 66, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2016 at her residence. She was born in Scottsburg, Indiana, the daughter of the late Ernest Lee Hayes and Ruby Ann (Golden) Keach. Evelyn was a homemaker and a member of the Kimberlin Creek Baptist Church near Lexington, Indiana. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Dale McKennon and a sister, Patricia Ann Martinez. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Luther Akemon; a son, Daniel Lee Akemon of Scottsburg, Indiana; a daughter, Terri Ann Schemmel of New Albany, Indiana; two brothers, Tony McKennon of Charlestown, Indiana and Jerry Keach of Jeffersonville, Indiana; four sisters, Pamela Louden of Seymour, Indiana, Julie Kaye Moriarty of New Albany, Indiana, Teresa Able and Marshell Gilbert both of Jeffersonville, Indiana; six grandchildren, Ashley Dawn Miller, Autumn Rain, Danielle Marie and Tristan Alexander Akemon, Elizabeth Soto and Katherine Sierra Schemmel and and three great grandchildren, Kamden Miller, Luke and Noah Soto.
