Harold L. Applegate, 81, of LaFayette St., Hudson, died Sunday, February 5, 2017 at ProMedica Bixby Hospital in Adrian. He was born January 9, 1936, in Austin, IN, to the late Andrew and Grace (Wilson) Applegate. He married Rebecca Slone on February 4, 1978, and she survives. Harold, a 45-year Hudson resident, most recently worked as a machinist at American Chain and Cable and Michael Industries. A veteran of the US Army, he was drafted in 1960 during the Vietnam War, and later would twice reenlist to continue his sacrifice to our country before his honorable discharge in 1969. He continued his patriotic service as a civilian with his active membership in the D.A.V., V.F.W., and the American Legion. Harold loved the outdoors, where he enjoyed the sports of fishing and camping. Perhaps his greatest joy was being in the social company of his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Francis Applegate, and a sister, Vergene Dart. Surviving in addition to his wife of 39 years, Rebecca, are a daughter, Connie Applegate Clark of Mt. Vernon, OH; three sons, Donald, Lloyd, and Michael Applegate; a stepdaughter, Michelle West of Kalamazoo, MI; and two stepsons, Robert Slone of Kalamazoo and Rodney Allen Slone of TN; a sister, Sally Siggers of Greenwood, IN; and numerous grandchildren and great-granchildren. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in honor of Harold are suggested to Hospice of Lenawee County. Friends can share memories and words of comfort with the family online at www.eaglefuneralhomes.com or www.collinsfuneralhome.net.

A funeral service for Harold will be Thursday, February 9, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. at Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson with Mr. Randall Applegate officiating. Full military honors by Hudson American Legion Post #180 will follow the service at the funeral home. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. Graveside Service: 10:00 AM Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Scottsburg Cemetery in Scottsburg, IN.
