Helen Louise Spaulding, 97, formerly of Scottsburg, died on April 18, 2017 at Morning Point Assisted Living in Franklin, Indiana. Helen (Paswater) Spaulding was born on March 29, 1920 in Lexington, Indiana, the daughter of the late Ray Paswater and Maysel (Staples) Paswater. She graduated from Austin High School in 1937 and was president of her senior class. Helen was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter #471 in Milroy, Indiana for over 50 years. On June 27, 1940, she married Marion “Nick” Spaulding of Milroy, Indiana and they had two sons. Helen was a homemaker, part owner of “Nicks Drive In” in Mitchell, Indiana, and a former quality control inspector at the old Indiana Army Anummution Plant in Charlestown, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Marion “Nick” who died in 1976, a son, Paul who died in 1981, five sisters, Naomi Amick, Mildred McRoy, Phyllis Paswater, Leah Julian and Juanita Moore all of Scottsburg and two brothers Kenneth Paswater of Lexington, Indiana and Kendall Paswater of Vacaville, California. Helen is survived by her son, Dale Spaulding and wife Patricia of Franklin, Indiana, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A private graveside service was held on April 19, 2017 at Scottsburg Cemetery, where Helen was laid to rest beside her beloved husband. The Rev. Phillip Lamaster officiated the service. Collins Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.collinsfuneralhome.net.
