Herschel Fugate

Herschel Fugate, 79, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Scott Memorial Hospital. He was born on November 22, 1934 in Knott County, Kentucky, the son of the late William and Eva (Smith) Fugate. Herschel was a retired machine and set-up employee for General Electric in Louisville, Kentucky retiring in 1995 and had also formerly worked for Chrysler Motors and Ford Motor Company. He was a member of Graceland Baptist Church in New Albany, Indiana, where he taught a Men’s Bible Class, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a Scott County Master Gardener, Honorary Kentucky Colonel, had served as a former Elder and Interim Pastor, formerly taught college and career classes at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky, had been Chairman of Deacons and had taught Young Married Classes at Harmony Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Fugate; a sister, Christina Williams and a brother, Virgil Fugate. Survivors include his wife, Shirley A. (Francis) Fugate; a daughter, Helen G. Adkins and her husband Creg of Greenwood, Indiana; a daughter-in-law, Sherrie Fugate of Scottsburg, Indiana; a brother, John Fugate and his wife Jeanne’ of Houston, Texas; a sister, Teresa Kays and her husband Doug of Redondo Beach, California; three grandchildren, Sara Murff, Becca Adkins and Nathan Fugate and two great grandchildren, Vanessa and Alex Murff.
