Hubert Lee Hawkins

Hubert Lee Hawkins, 83, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2017 at Hickory Creek of Scottsburg. He was born on August 14, 1934 in Bloomington, Indiana, the son of the late Charles H. Hawkins and Reba Belle (Lacy) Hawkins. Hubert graduated from Lexington High School in 1952 and also attended Ivy Tech Community College. He was married on June 29, 1958 to Nancy N. Shirley. Hubert was a retired employee of the old American Can Company in Austin, Indiana, where he worked for 36 years retiring in 1986 and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a faithful member of the Northside Church of Christ in Jeffersonville, Indiana, where he had served as a former Elder and former Board Member for Childplace. Hubert was preceded in death by five brothers, Raymond, Henry, Robert, Gilbert and Kenneth Hawkins and a sister, Thelma Sanders. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Nancy N. Hawkins; two daughters Leigh Ann Akers of Schwenksville, Pennsylvania and Karen West and husband Mark of Scottsburg, Indiana; a sister, Juanita Gladden of Austin, Indiana; two sisters-in-law, Marie Hawkins of Alexander City, Alabama and Bobbi Jo Hawkins of Charlestown, Indiana and four grandchildren, Caitlin Schloer and husband Adam, Sidney Akers, Bailey and Taylor West. Memorial Contributions: Childplace c/o Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana.

Funeral Service: 1:00 pm Monday, November 27, 2017 at Collins Funeral Home with Conrad Moorer and Corey Lamb officiating. Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Sunday and after 11 am Monday at Collins Funeral Home. Interment will be in Austin Cemetery.
