Ida (Gay) Smith, 87, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Salem Crossing in Salem, Indiana. She was born on January 10, 1931 in Owsley County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Noah and Ada (Bishop) Gay. Ida was married on Nov. 30, 1951 to Lowry A. Smith, Jr., who passed away on Dec. 31, 2006. She was a former employee of the old Bata Shoe Company in Salem, Indiana, the old Best Western Restaurant in Scottsburg, Indiana and was a member of the Little York United Methodist Church in Little York, Indiana. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Michael L. and Lowry G. Smith; a brother, Kermit Gay and two sisters, Lillie Cornett and Gladys Dailey. Survivors include three daughters, Doris Biddle and husband Jim of Bloomington, Indiana, Joyce Knight and husband Dennis of Salem, Indiana and Rhonda King of Bloomington, Indiana; a son, Rick Smith and wife Tammy of Scottsburg, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Martha Smith of Madison, Indiana; two sisters, Grace Hardin and Ofa Hardin both of Scottsburg, Indiana; eleven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Funeral Service: 11:00 am Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Collins Funeral Home with Bro. Rodney Sweeney officiating. Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Wednesday and after 9 am Thursday. Interment will be in Little York Cemetery.
