Iva Sue Burns

Iva Sue Burns, 89, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Bee Hive Homes in Scottsburg, Indiana.  She was born on December 12, 1925 in Laurel, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Thomas Watson and Dollye (Terry) Herrington.  Sue graduated from Ellisville High School in Ellisville, Mississippi.  She was married on Jan. 26, 1946 to Blake  Burns, who preceded her in death on Nov. 26, 2013.  Sue retired as business manager/treasurer in the Superintendent’s Office at Scott County School District 2 and was co-owner of the old Burns 5 & 10 in Scottsburg, Indiana. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she had worked on the office staff, was formerly Sunday School Superintendent, Deaconess, member of the Women’s Mission Circle and the First Female Moderator.  Sue was past President and member of the Scottsburg Parent Teacher’s Association, a member of American Baptist Womens group and enjoyed sewing.   In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Sammy Herrington. Survivors include two daughters, Marsha Reeves-Fewell of Scottsburg, Indiana and Christina (Christy) Beardsley of Zionsville, Indiana;  two brothers, Joe Herrington (Patsy) and Tom Herrington (Nelda) all of Laurel, Mississippi; two sisters, Nell Moss and Joy Cranford (Thomas) all of Laurel, Mississippi; four grandchildren, Scott Reeves, Kristin Reeves Pond (Charley), Brian Burns Beardsley and Jacqueline Robison (Ben), several nieces and nephews, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Visitation: 3 to 8 pm Saturday at Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana and after noon on Sunday at her church.

Funeral Service: 1:00 pm Sunday, January 11, 2014 at First Baptist Church with burial in Scottsburg Cemetery.
