Marietta E. Hardy

Marietta E. Hardy, 89, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away on Monday, April 4, 2016 at Hampton Oaks Health Campus.  She was born May 7, 1926 in Scottsburg, Indiana, the daughter of the late Levi and Naomi (Laugheed) Everhart.  Marietta graduated from Scottsburg High School in 1944, was a former cook at Hardy’s Cafe in Scottsburg, Indiana, served as Matron of Scott County Jail from 1971 to 1978 and served as Scott County Sheriff from 1979 to 1982.  She was the first elected female Sheriff in the State of Indiana.  Marietta was a member of the First Baptist Church in Scottsburg, Indiana and also attended Memphis Christian Church.  She was a former member of F.O.P. Lodge # 156, Scott County VFW Auxiliary Post 6582 and Scottsburg Women’s Bowling League.  She was married on March 29, 1947 to Raymond L. Hardy, who preceded her in death on July 21, 2000. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Shields and a sister, Iola Fewell. Survivors include two daughters, Shari Hardy  (Duke League) of Underwood, Indiana and Jan Hardy (Larry Ellingwood) of Scottsburg, Indiana and several nieces and nephews.Online condolences:www.collinsfuneralhome.net

Funeral Service:
1:00 pm Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Collins Funeral Home with entombment at Scottsburg Cemetery.
Visitation:
4 to 8 pm Wednesday and after 10 am Thursday.
