Mary Ellen (Terwilleger) Lowry-Welling, 84, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Norton Inpatient Care Center in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born on August 24,1932 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of the late William S. Terwilleger, M.D. and Mary Florence (Pannett) Terwilleger. Mary Ellen graduated from Madeira High School and then earned her Bachelors in Nursing from the old Bethesda College of Nursing both in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was a retired nurse and had worked at many facilities including the old American Can Company, Scott Memorial Hospital, Scott County Health Department, the old William’s Manor Nursing Home, Austin School Nurse and Camp Nurse at Englishton Park to name a few. Mary Ellen was a member of Vienna Baptist Church and always volunteered her time caring for other people when she was able. She was married on Feb. 16, 2003 to Rev. James H. Welling, who survives. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Elaine Trouten and a brother, Billy Terwilleger. In addition to her husband, Jim survivors include a son, Eric Lowry and his wife Sue of Greenwood, Indiana; a daughter, Carol Lowry-Ellis of Terre Haute, Indiana; three grandchildren, Sean Lowry and his wife Sydney, Jeffery and Erica Moore; three great grandchildren, Ivy Lowry, Jaren and Jordyn Moore; her caregiver, Esther Hess and numerous step children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral Service: Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Vienna Baptist Church with Pastor David Carroll officiating. Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Saturday at Collins Funeral Home and 1 to 2 pm Sunday at Vienna Baptist Church. Interment will be Scottsburg Cemetery

Mary Ellen was a very kind person. After my accident she not only provided excellent home health care but she became a friend who always had time to listen.
