Raymond Swope, Jr.

Raymond Swope, Jr., 92, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at Scott Memorial Hospital. He was born on January 20, 1924 in Lebanon, Indiana, the son of the late Raymond A. and Naomi (Smith) Swope. Raymond graduated from Lebanon High School in 1941 and later earned his Bachelors Degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. He was the retired owner and operator of the old Raymond Swope Accounting Office in Scottsburg, Indiana and a member of the First Baptist Church in Scottsburg, Indiana. Raymond was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran and was awarded a Purple Heart for his service. In addition, he was a charter member of the Scott Memorial Hospital Board, retired Director for the Scottsburg Building & Loan Association, former member of the Scottsburg Lions Club, Seymour Elks, Scottsburgh Lodge # 572 F & AM, avid IU Sports fan. Raymond was also instrumental in establishing the Westwood Golf Course and was a member there since it opened. He was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Beverly C. Swope, his second wife, Sandra S. Swope; a brother, Moncil Swope and a grandaughter, Leslie Renee Swope. Survivors include two sons, Gary Swope (Terry) and Brent Swope all of Scottsburg, Indiana; a daughter, Kathi Hackney (Jerry) of Seymour, Indiana; a stepson, Brent Zollman (Beverly) of Louisville, Kentucky; a stepdaughter, Kim Combs of Saginaw, Michigan; a sister, Mary Jean Ottinger of Zionsville, Indiana; three grandchildren, five great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Funeral Service: 3:00 pm Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Collins Funeral Home with burial in Scottsburg Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Friday and after 2:00 PM Saturday.

Sorry about your loss. I had great respect for Raymond, and he treated me with respect. IU sports is suffering loss of one of it's best fans. I definitely would be there, but I have to be out of town. Wayne Stearns
