William L. "Bud" Carpenter, Jr.,

William L. “Bud” Carpenter, Jr., 82, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2015. He was born on November 8, 1932 in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of the late William Louis and Elizabeth (Pace) Carpenter. Bud was a former stable worker of at the old Louisville Downs. He was also employed selling ice cream from a horse drawn wagon, as a car dealer and a house painter. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, a volunteer for
the Salvation Army and served as Chaplain, Commander and Vice Commander and member of the American Legion Post # 234 in Scottsburg, Indiana. Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah E. (Stidam) Carpenter and a brother, Virgil Carpenter. Survivors include a son, Christopher A. Hewitt of Sacramento,California; a stepdaughter, Janet Belcher of Scottsburg, Indiana; two sisters, June (Donald) Huffmire – Hamilton of Lancaster, California and Ann (Lawton) Green of Jacksonville, Florida; a sister-in-law, Jackie Carpenter of Elizabeth, Indiana; a step grandson, Andrew Belcher, several brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws and eight nieces and nephews. Cremation is entrusted to Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Memorial Contributions: Scott County Relay for Life c/o Collins Funeral Home. Online condolences: www.collinsfuneralhome.net.

Visitation: 9 to 11 am Saturday.

Memorial Service: 11:00 am Saturday at Collins Funeral Home with private inurnment at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, Indiana.
