Willie Coomer, Sr.

Willie Coomer, Sr., 79, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2019 at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born on January 6, 1940 in Hazard, Kentucky, the son of the late Nathan Coomer and Rettie (Barrett) Coomer. Willie was married on Sept. 14, 1960 to Celia Ann (King) Coomer, who passed away on March 16, 2017. He was a retired self employed residential contractor and had previously worked for the City of Austin. Willie and his wife Celia were co-owners of the Old Bottom Pay Lake in Lexington, Indiana and members of the Ivy Hill Baptist Church near Underwood, Indiana. He enjoyed fishing and hunting everything from deer, squirrels, rabbits, turkey’s and raccoons. Willie was a member of the Scott County Coon Hunters Club and he and his brother had held numerous shooting competitions. Survivors include three sons, Willie Coomer, Jr., Benjamin Ray Coomer and Steven Russell Coomer all of Scottsburg, Indiana; a daughter, Teresa C. White of Scottsburg, Indiana; three sisters, Dorie Baker and Bertha Campbell both of Austin, Indiana and Betty Sue Anthony of Crothersville, Indiana; two brothers, Frank Coomer of Austin, Indiana and Delmar Coomer of Scottsburg, Indiana; 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Willie was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Nathan Edward Spicer and Morgan Coomer; four brothers, Robert, Russell Lee, Fred and Charles Coomer and a sister, Elsie Disbro. Funeral Service: 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Collins Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Hundley officiating. Visitation: 4 to 7 pm Wednesday at Collins Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the services and private inurnment will be at a later date in New Providence Cemetery near Austin, Indiana.
