Betty Jean Calloway, 74, of Lexington, Indiana, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2017 at Hampton Oaks Health Campus in Scottsburg, Indiana surrounded by her family. She was born on July 9, 1943 in Austin, Indiana, the daughter of the late Milton Hays and Golden “Goldie” M. (Spicer) Masters. Betty graduated from Crothersville High School and then married her husband, Ed Calloway in 1961. She started her working career at the old U.S. Shoe Factory in Crothersville, Indiana and then became bookkeeper for the old Hahn’s Saddle Shop. Her and her husband were co-owner’s of several businesses over the years. They included Calloway Oil Company, Calloway Packaging, Business Services, Inc., E & J Truck Stop and Burger Queen in Austin, Indiana. They also were former co-owner’s of the Ponderosa and Arby’s Restaurants. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church in Scottsburg, Indiana. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Betty also enjoyed crafts and fishing with her husband. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Ed Calloway; a son, Gene Calloway and wife Kim of Lexington, Indiana; a daughter, Mitzi Coffey and husband Mark of Jeffersonville, Indiana; a sister, Carlene Kennedy and husband Mark of Big Cabin, Oklahoma; a brother, Ralph Milton Hays and wife Delilah of Crothersville, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Madyson Calloway, Samantha Loseman (Tim), Kameron, Kaden and Kyle Mace, Emily Burris (Shane) and Nick Coffey (Tiffani) and six great grandchildren, Blake, Kaydence, Kace, Karson, Luke and Mya.
