Brodt, Fred O., 87, died Wednesday May 27, 2015, in Carmel, Indiana. He was born June 26, 1927 in Muncie, Indiana, the son of the late Fred A. and Velma (Dismore) Brodt. Fred was married Aug. 29, 1947 to Marjorie A. (Buzzard) Brodt, who survives. He was a retired claims manager for the old Martin’s Insurance Agency in Scottsburg, Indiana from 1962 to 1992. He was also a former manager for the old Shady Nook Restaurant and Motel from 1947 to 1959 and a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a lifetime member of the Scottsburg United Methodist Church He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II. Fred lived all of his life in Scott County, Indiana. He was a Scottsburg High Graduate with the Class of 1945 and attended the Bryant Stratton Business College in Louisville, Kentucky after being discharged from the U.S. Navy. He was a Boy Scout and became an Eagle Scout on Oct. 14, 1943, where he awarded the Bronze Star and the Order of The Arrow. He served as a staff member at Tunnel Mill Reservation Boy Scout Camp for 2 years. Fred was a Hoosier’s Boy’s State delegate in 1943, a 3rd Degree Mason with the Scottsburgh Masonic Lodge # 572, a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis, Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Post # 234. He was Executive Secretary of the Scottsburg Chamber of Commerce for over 5 years, Secretary and Manager of the Scott County Fair Association from 1963 – 1966, an announcer for the Tractor Pulling Contest at the Scott County and Jefferson County Fair’s for 6 years. He was Program Chairman for the dedication ceremony of the new interchange at I – 65 and State Road 56 on Septemebr 26, 1960, Director of the Christmas Program in Scottsburg, overseeing Santa’s Castle and the Christmas parade. He was on the Governor’s Conference on Higher Education, Aged and Aging. He was on the Industrial Committee of the Scott County Overall Economic Development Program. He was President of the Scottie’s Square Dance Club and the Scottsburg Cemetery Association for 25 years. Survivors include: Wife: Marjorie A. Brodt, Four Sons: Fred E. of Riverside, California, Phil of Lynnwood, Washington, Eric of Carmel, Indiana and Jeff Brodt of Brentwood, Tennessee. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. Interment at Scottsburg Cemetery.
