Carolyn J. Carey, 70, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016 at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, Indiana. She was born on March 4, 1946 in White County, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Willis Colbert and Alice Louise (Coles) Beasley. Carolyn was retired from Valeo-Sylvania in Seymour, Indiana and was a member of the New Chapel United Methodist Church near Underwood, Indiana, where she served as the Assistant Treasurer and was Treasurer and a member of the United Methodist Women’s Group. In addition, she served on the board and was a member of Farm Bureau Coop, enjoyed sewing, quilting, flower gardening and spending time with her family. Carolyn was preceded in death by three brothers, Mike, Roy and Ernie Colbert. Survivors include her husband, Gene Carey; a son, James (Emma) Carey of Scottsburg, Indiana; two daughters, Rhonda Carey-Johnson and Deanna Carey-Slack both of Scottsburg, Indiana; four sisters, Elizabeth Sue (Clay) Brooks of Scottsburg, Indiana, Brenda Colbert and Deborah (Mike) Cherry all of Searcy, Arkansas and Mary (Freddie) Cox of Ward, Arkansas; two brothers, Don (Linda) Colbert of Monroe, Louisiana and David (Connie) Colbert of Austin, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Stephen Carey (Samantha) and Caitlyn Carey, Miranda Hall (Kevin), Randy Buffington (Kara), Joseph and Sara Slack and five great grandchildren, Jaylee, Rachael, Colby, Karlee and Becca.
