Charles D. “Charlie” Cooper, Sr., 72, of Salem, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Hickory Creek of Scottsburg. He was born on March 6, 1945 in Beattyville, Kentucky, the son of the late Earl Cooper and Offie (Brandenburg) Cooper. Charlie was married on Sept. 23, 1963 to Phyllis Browning. He was a retired laborer for Morgan Foods in Austin, Indiana, where he worked for 20 years and was also a logger and coal miner in Kentucky when he was younger. Charlie was a member of the Church of God, the Austin Conservation Club, the Coon Hunters Club and he loved to hunt and fish. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Vest; two brothers, Clyde and William Coy Cooper and a sister, Delf Cooper. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Cooper; four sons, Johnny Cooper and wife Wendy of Scottsburg, Indiana, Charles D. Cooper, Jr. and Elvis Vest and wife Candi all of Salem, Indiana and Raymond Vest and wife Holly of Austin, Indiana; three daughters, Tammy Schwartz and husband Edgar, Phyllis Elaine Cooper and Tiffany Vest all of Salem, Indiana; a brother, James Cooper and wife Betty of Beattyville, Kentucky; two sisters, Della Spicer of Beattyville, Kentucky and Mildred Ashe and husband Larry of Anderson, Indiana; six grandchildren, Donald and John David Cooper, Kelly Castillo, Heather Weber, Kayla Hutchins and Herman Sizemore, Jr. and fifteen great grandchildren.
