Charles E. “Charlie” “Chic” Holland, 72, passed away on January 15, 2018. He was born in Scottsburg, Indiana, August 24, 1945 son of the Beatrice (Broadus) Niehaus and the late Charles Holland, Sr. Also preceding him in death was grandmother, Opal Pendy Graf; a brother, Jack Holland; and step father, Richard Niehaus. He was a graduate of Scottsburg High School. Charlie was in the construction business for over forty years. He began his career working with his father in the masonry and excavating business. He had his own business for a short time in the 1970’s before joining the construction firm of Stumler & Gohmann as an estimator. In1982 he moved to Oklahoma to work as a Highway Operations Manager for Haskell Lemon Construction based in Oklahoma City. In 1989 he had the opportunity to be close to family and he returned to work at JH Rudolph & Co. in Evansville as Vice President of the southwest region. In 2009 he took a part-time position as Technical Director for the Asphalt Pavement Association of Indiana and continued in that position until July 2012. He was the co-owner of PaveSmart, an electronic grading system for asphalt paving. PaveSmart projects primarily involved airports with work extending from California to the east coast. He ran this business with his brother Robert Holland. Charlie enjoyed watching the river traffic from his back yard in Derby, tending his vineyard, making and drinking wine and playing with his Boston Terriers. Charlie was united in marriage to Mary Ernestine Ramsey on January 3, 1983. Charlie is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary E. (Ramsey) Holland, Derby; mother, Beatrice (Broadus) Niehaus; daughter, Jana Grammer (Rodney), Scottsburg, IN; sons, Jason Holland (Anna), Seymour, IN and Justin Holland (Dionna), Scottsburg, IN, ; sister, Bonnie Cushing (Barney)Montana; brothers, Dennis Holland (Sue), Utah, Bob Holland (Star), New Mexico; five grandchildren, Ambrose Schneider, Whitney Santos, Courtney and Micah Grammer and Lexi Holland; one great grandchild, Isaiah Schneider; and his two faithful Boston Terriers, Rhett Butler and Mr. Finn. He was expecting his second great-grand child in May. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Cemetery, Derby, Indiana or Perry County Animal Shelter.
