Danny O. Cumbee, Sr., 73, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, Indiana. He was born on December 24, 1945 in Todd County, Kentucky, the son of the late Thomas D. Cumbee and Ima Lorene (Stokes) Cumbee. He was married on Nov. 3, 1969 to Helen Marie (Meagher) Cumbee, who passed away on April 21, 2007. Danny retired as a Sergeant First Class after serving 25 years in the U.S. Army and also had worked as a maintenance man for Burger King in Scottsburg, Indiana. He was a Vietnam War veteran and had received the Purple Heart and 4 Bronze Stars along with numerous other awards. Danny earned a degree in Criminology while he was in the military and enjoyed woodworking and working on vehicles. In addition to his wife and parents, Danny was preceded in death by a brother, David Cumbee and two sisters, Betty Lankford and Sandra Simpson. Survivors include a daughter, Dana M. Lizenby of Scottsburg, Indiana; a son: Danny O. Cumbee, Jr. and his wife Lori of Lexington, Indiana and six grandchildren, Jacob and Caitlyn Dunn, Jalen, Emily, Isaiah and Noah Cumbee.
