David R. Vanmeter, 83, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Beehive Assisted Living in Scottsburg, Indiana. He was born on May 28, 1931 near Paoli, Indiana, the son of the late Walter and Rose (Williams) Vanmeter. David graduated from Lexington High School in 1950. He was a retired lab technician at the old Occidental Chemical Company in Clarksville, Indiana where he worked 35 years, retiring in 1991,was a member of the First Christian Church, where he had served as a Deacon and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. David was an avid Scottsburg Warrior fan, loved IU Basketball, and enjoyed gardening on his farm. He was preceded in death by eleven siblings. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Joyce (Sommerville) Vanmeter; two daughters, Diana Blanton and her husband Jim and Donna Hubbard and her husband Jeff all of Scottsburg, Indiana; five grandchildren, Chris Garten (Beth), Brian and Jordan Blanton, Morgan Hubbard (Amy) and Baylie Hubbard and three great grandchildren, Hayden, Hudson, and Greyson Garten.
