DeWight Douglas Blanton, 54, of Lexington, Indiana, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2017 at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital in New Albany, Indiana. He was born on April 3, 1963 in Jeffersonville, Indiana, the son of Randall L. Blanton and Bessie A. (Hardin) Davidson. DeWight graduated from Scottsburg High School in 1981. He was a set crew employee for Fewell Monument Company in Scottsburg, Indiana, where he worked for the last 4 years. Prior to working at Fewell’s, he worked for 17 years in the Case Treat Department at the old Freudenberg NOK and also for the old Coca Cola Plant in Scottsburg until it closed. DeWight was a race car enthusiast, enjoyed fishing and in his younger years, raced Stock Cars at the Salem Race Track. He currently holds the State Record for Indiana’s Largest Watermelon at 232 lbs. DeWight was preceded in death by by his father, Randall L. Blanton and a brother, Donald Blanton. Survivors include his son, Chris Blanton of Austin, Indiana; mother and stepfather, Bessie and Virgil Davidson of Scottsburg, Indiana; a sister, Dana Boswell and her husband Corey of Scottsburg, Indiana; a brother, Donavon Blanton of Seymour, Indiana; several nieces and nephews and five great nieces and nephews.
