Donald A. Smith, 75, of Nabb, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born on February 7, 1941 in Scottsburg, Indiana, the son of the late Ancil and Margaret (Aldridge) Smith and graduated from Lexington High School in the Class of 1959. Don was a retired welder and crane operator for the old U.S. Filter Company in Madsion, Indiana and a farmer. He was a member of the Lexington Christian Church, American Legion Post # 234, English Lodge # 622 F & AM, Kosair Shrine Club, Moose Family Center # 2324 and a former member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. Don enjoyed shooting matches, playing cards, hunting, fishing and catching turtles. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ray Lee and Roger Dale Smith. Don was married on Sept. 3, 1960 to Paula (Dixon) Smith, who survives. Survivors in addition to his wife include four daughters, Beverly Nichols (Terry) of Columbus, Indiana, Teresa Just (Jeff Lytle) of Austin, Indiana, Donna Whicker (Jonnie) of Lexington, Indiana and Diana Gray (Mark) of Milton, Kentucky; a son, Donald “Doc” Smith (Tina) of Lexington, Indiana; a brother, Keith Smith (Brenda) of Nabb, Indiana; ten grandchildren, Josh, Tammie, Kelsey and Corey Nichols, Heather and James Comer, Travis and Shauna Copple, Christopher and Brian Smith and eleven great grandchildren, Drew, Molly, Annie, Lucas, Elijah, Nathan, Rian, Andrew, Lilly, Mason and Emma. Funeral Service: 1:30 pm Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Collins Funeral Home with Paul Ratterman officiating. Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Monday and after 11 am Tuesday at Collins Funeral Home. Interment will be in Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Indiana.
