Donnie Lee Sanders , 80, of Scottsburg, Indiana passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2017 in Louisville, Kentucky. Donnie was born on November 7, 1936 in Campbellsville, Kentucky , the son of the late Elijah Thomas and Daisy Lorine (Barnett ) Sanders. He was a Miscellaneous Machine Operator for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Indiana retiring after 25 years and a US Army Veteran. Donnie lived most of his life in Scott County, Indiana, was a member of the Scottsburg Church of Christ and a member of the Diesel Workers Union . He was married on September 22, 1957 to Thelma Ilene (Hawkins) Sanders , who passed away Feb. 28, 2009. Survivors include: three daughters; Lura Hampton and companion David Arthur; Julia and husband Anthony Sanders-Legg and Michelle and husband Rush Sanders-Ralls, all of Scottsburg, Indiana; a brother; Mitchell Wayne and wife Marie Jeffries of Commiskey, Indiana; a sister; Valda Massey of Opelika, Alabama; a sister-in-law, Janice Sanders of Otisco, Indiana; a grandson, Michael Hampton of Elizabethtown, Kentucky and a Great Granddaughter, Elizabeth Hampton of Sellersburg, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a brother, Tommy Sanders. Memorials donations to the American Diabetes or the American Heart Associations c/o Collins.
