Floyd Lynn Surber, 77, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Baptist Floyd Hospital in New Albany, Indiana. He was born on June 3, 1942 in Austin, Indiana, the son of the late Floyd Surber and Rosalie (Darin) Surber. Lynn graduated from Austin High School in 1961 and then attended Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Kentucky on a scholarship for track and cross country. He was a retired chief operating officer and vice president for Merico/Royal Foods, Inc. in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he worked for 42 years. Lynn was a member and former Deacon at Bethel Baptist Church in Leota, Indiana, a former member of the Austin Lions Club, a supporter of Scott County Relay for Life and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Westwood Golf Course and Men’s League in Scottsburg, Indiana. In addition to his parents, Lynn was preceded in death by two sisters, DeReva Bruno and Glenda Bannister. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Rita J. (Bedell) Surber; a son, Timothy Lynn Surber of Indianapolis, Indiana; a daughter, Kelli R. Reed of Noblesville, Indiana; two brothers, Neil Surber of Scottsburg, Indiana and Gary Surber and his wife Josephine of Austin, Indiana and five grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Molly Surber, Brendan, Jake and Bailee Reed. I enjoyed my years at Westwood Golf Course and loved all the members I came in contact with. Lynn was a joy to see every morning! I am grateful to have known Lynn and pray for peace for the family.

I worked with Lynn for most of my 35 years at Merico/Royal Foods. He was my boss for majority of those years and in many ways a best friend. He was a joy to work with and I had a deep spiritual love for this man, his wife Rita and Tim who I also worked with and who grew to be like a son. Lynn made me feel like family. I’ll truly miss his smile and his words, don’t cut down anymore trees, that is don’t waste paper! He was a recycle man. He loved throwing Christmas parties for all, and gifts. A living and giving man, however he also expected honesty and a hard day’s work. Thank you Lynn for trusting me and believing in me.

The members of Lynn's high school graduating class of 1961, are saddened as we begin to learn of his passing. All who knew him, were inspired by the way he lived his life and how he cared for others. I know of his returning to his home community after retirement. He made a difference by becoming an involved citizen in its various organizations including being a member of Austin High School's Alumni Association.
