Gerald Leo “Jerry” Coomes, beloved father and grandfather, 64, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019. He was born on January 30, 1954 in Scottsburg, Indiana, the son of the late Lawrence Leo and Louise (Hahn) Coomes. Jerry graduated from Scottsburg High School in 1972 and was a member of the American Martyrs Catholic Church. He was the Plant Manager at Genpak in Scottsburg, Indiana. Jerry enjoyed fishing, hunting and being with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Freddie R. Coomes; brother-in-law, Bobby Nichols and numerous other family members. Survivors include a daughter, Jerica Hall and her husband Steve of Paris, Ohio; a son, Jeremy Coomes and his wife Jessica of Columbus, Indiana; three sisters, Norma Kendall-Massey and her husband George of Indianapolis, Indiana, Judy L. Nichols of Elizabethtown, Indiana and Brenda L. Bright and her husband Bobby of Lexington, Indiana; a brother, James L. Coomes and his wife Myra of Lexington, Indiana; a sister-in-law, Gwen Coomes of Jupiter, Florida; three aunts, Bettye Jobson, Margaret McDonald and Toni Jackson; mother of his children, Karla Coomes of Scottsburg, Indiana; six grandchildren, Katie, Samuel, Maxwell, Karlee, Owen and Jameson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation services were requested and entrusted to Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Memorial Contributions may be given to his church c/o Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana. Jerry was one of the kindest men I ever knew. He had to give me a shot once at Genpak and he kept me in his office while he worked until I could recover. He never said a foul word to me and always smiled and greeted me. I’m so sorry to the family...
