James Leon Nichols, 76, of Quaker Hill, CT, formerly of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2015, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in New London, CT. He was born in Rockfield, Kentucky, the son of Albert and Edna (Bullock) Nichols. Leon was raised and lived most of his younger years in Scottsburg, Indiana. He graduated from Scottsburg High School in 1958 and then worked at Cummins Engine Company before moving to Connecticut. After moving to Connecticut, he worked for many years as machinist and then a supervisor for the Whiton Machine Company. Leon was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charlie Nichols. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Harriet (Finnegan) Nichols; four children, Leanne Birch of Salem, Indiana, James Nichols and his wife, Julie, of Huntsville, Alabama, Darryl Nichols and his wife, Lorie, of Scottsburg, Indiana, and David Nichols of Hodges, South Carolina; three brothers, Bobby Nichols and his wife, Judy of Elizabethtown, Indiana and Kenny Nichols and his wife, Pamela and Mike Nichols and his wife, Sonya all of Scottsburg, Indiana; three sisters-in-law, Grace and Frances Finnegan and Joan Macione; several grandchildren; one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Cremation was requested by his family. Private burial of his cremated remains will be at a later date in Scottsburg Cemetery.
