Jay S. Lambert, 87, of Crothersville, Indiana, passed away quietly on Monday, January 29, 2018 at his daughter’s residence. He was born on August 9, 1930 in Crothersville, Indiana, the son of the late Fred S. Lambert and Pearl (Berry) Lambert. Jay was married on July 27, 1951 to Barbara A. (Collings) Lambert, who preceded him in death on Dec. 23, 2015. They were married for 64 years. Jay was a welder at Arvins in Seymour, Indiana for 26 years and also worked as a Security Guard at Cummins Engine Company for nine years. While working full time, he also painted homes inside and out after work and on weekends. After he officially retired Again, he held some other part time jobs and worked as a custodian at Bob Poynter Chevrolet and the Crothersville Post Office. Jay enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and grandkids. He was an outdoorsman and loved to hunt, trap and fish. Jay competed in horseshoe tournaments as well as played baseball in his younger years, and even tried out for the Chicago White Socks. He loved to watch IU Basketball and listening to bluegrass music. Jay even enjoyed cooking a little and made a mean skillet of fried potatoes, the best fried fish you ever eaten and not to mention the yummiest hickory nut chocolate fudge. In addition to his wife, Jay was preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Hartigan (Red), Edna Tomina (Mike) and Gladys Wheeland (Hoyt). Survivors include two daughters, Carol J. Byford and husband Jim of Columbus, Indiana and Judy Foist and husband Gary of Crothersville, Indiana; four grandchildren, Shannon Foist (Sarah) and Hollie Hagan (Richard) all of Crothersville, Indiana, Ben Scott of Yorktown, VA and Angela Jones (David) of Seaford, VA; ten great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
