Joan Carter Pruitt, 78, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2016 at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany, Indiana. She was born in Rogersville, Tennessee, the daughter of the late J.V. Carter and Ruth May (Bass) Bledsoe. Joan attended Surgoinsville High School in Tennessee, retired from Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Indiana, enjoyed going to flea markets, playing bingo with her family, reading, watching sports and soap operas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Barnie Pruitt; a son, Bruce Glenn Pruitt; a brother, Wayne Bledsoe; a sister, Alice Joyce Carter and a granddaughter, Tiffany D. Carpenter. Survivors include a son, Michael R. Pruitt and his wife, Gina of Scottsburg, Indiana; three daughters, Deborah L. Carpenter of Whitehouse, Tennessee, Glenda S. Pruitt of Scottsburg, Indiana and Marcella E. Barrett and her husband, Robert Dale of Lexington, Indiana; two sisters, Jeraldine Studdard and her daughter, Jade of Jetersville, Virginia and Janis Fields of Surgoinsville, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Eric Carpenter (Angela), Dalaina Michelle Barrett, Selisa Fox, Dillon Bowen and Amelia Bowen and four great grandchildren, Alexis, Ellisyn, Autumn, and Danielle.
