Joseph Stephens Lucas, 75, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Scott Memorial Hospital. He was born on June 4, 1943 in Scott County, Indiana, the son of the late Z. L. Lucas, Sr. and Kathern (Bethel) Lucas. Joe graduated from Scottsburg High School in 1961 and then attended Western Kentucky University before enlisting into the Army. He was married on March 14, 1971 to Janet M. Bailey. Joe and Janet are the owners and operators of Joe’s Flowers in Scottsburg, Indiana, the former owner of Lucas Ag Center, J & J Feed Store, Lucas-Graham Oil Company and Joe Lucas Asphalt Sealing Company. He started out at Lucas Paving Company and was a former co-owner of the Lucas-Hussey Tobacco Warehouse in Louisville, Kentucky. Joe was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Vietnam War, a member of the Vienna Methodist Church, former member of the Scottsburg Kiwanis Club and enjoyed raising flowers from his greenhouse and socializing with people. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Z.L. Lucas, Jr. and George M. Lucas, Sr. and two sisters, Lida M. Lucas and Leona T. Morrow. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Janet M. Lucas; two daughters, Tricia Hancock and husband Chris of Scottsburg, Indiana and Tara Luse of Jeffersonville, Indiana; two sons, Joe Combs and wife Shedera of Texarkana, Texas and Kevin Davis and girlfriend Lisa Ross of Savannah, Georgia; four sisters, Lois Higdon of Louisville, Kentucky, Bobbie Fellows-Schneider of Clarksville, Indiana, Marjorie A. Hougland and husband Hub of Muncie, Indiana and Wanda L. Shisler-Irish and husband Glenn of Dayton, Ohio; eleven grandchildren, Dylan, Lane, Ty and Kathern Hancock, Lilly and Halen Luse, Matt and Jason Combs, Josh, Joe and Clay Davis and one great granddaughter, Kinley. Memorial Contributions may be given to the Turning Point Church c/o Collins Funeral Home in Scottsburg, Indiana.

I always admired Joe he had the same skin problem that I had and it did not bother him he was a very good man and I am sure he was a great husband and a great father. I did not talk to him a lot but I had the greatest respect for him and his family
