Joyce Vanmeter, 84, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Scott Memorial Hospital. She was born on July 3, 1933 in Scott County, Indiana, the daughter of the late John L. Sommerville and Gladys M. (Reed) Sommerville. Joyce graduated from Lexington High School in 1951. She was married on Sept. 14, 1951 to David R. Vanmeter, who preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 2014. She retired as the Treasurer for Scottsburg High School in Scottsburg, Indiana on August 1, 1995. Joyce had also worked at Scottsburg Elementary and Middle Schools. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Scottsburg, Indiana. Joyce and husband, David could always be seen at Scottsburg High School athletic events, especially High School Basketball Games. They loved to travel and had been to all 50 states. Survivors include two daughters, Diana and husband Jim Blanton and Donna and husband Jeff Hubbard all of Scottsburg, Indiana; a brother, Jack L. Sommerville (Mary Ann) of Scottsburg, Indiana; five grandchildren, Chris Garten (Beth), Brian and Jordan Blanton (Alissa), Morgan Hubbard (Amy) and Baylie Hubbard and three great grandchildren, Hayden, Hudson, and Greyson Garten.
