K. Stephen “Steve” Illingworth, 71, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Scott Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 10, 1946 in Lafayette, Indiana, the son of the late Kenneth “Kenny” Carroll Illingworth and Elizabeth “Betty” (Hasser) Illingworth. Steve graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1964 and attended Indiana Business College and Ball State University. He was married on March 4, 1972 to Linda Schneider. Steve retired in 2014 as a field examiner for the Indiana State Board of Accounts after 45 years. He was a member of Church of the American Martyrs in Scottsburg, Indiana and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Steve was active in the Boy Scouts, attaining Eagle Scout as a youth and Order of the Arrow as an adult leader. In 1989, he was instrumental in founding Troop 23 of Scottsburg where he was an active adult leader for over a decade. His three sons attained Eagle Scout in Troop 23. Steve also helped to found the Scottsburg Knights of Columbus Council 8052 and served in leadership roles. Steve and his wife Linda enjoyed traveling together. He is predeceased by his sister Judith “Judy” Beason. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Linda Illingworth; three sons, Jeff and wife Gina Illingworth of Camino, California, Jarred and wife Laura Illingworth of Brownsburg, Indiana and Jason and wife Melissa Illingworth of Atascadero, California; his granddaughter, Kenna Illingworth of Brownsburg, Indiana; a brother, Dean M. and wife Phyllis Illingworth of Indianapolis, Indiana; a sister, Susan and husband Mike Jacobs of West Lafayette, Indiana and five nieces and nephews and numerous cousins. Steve’s family request that you register as an organ donor or donate blood regularly in his memory.
