Lee Bridgewater

Lee Bridgewater, 89, a native of Scottsburg, Indiana, died on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Hampton Oaks Health Campus. He was born on August 6, 1928, the son of the late Forest “Chub” Bridgewater and Frances (Morgan) Bridgewater. Lee was a graduate of Scottsburg High School, Class of 1948. He was married on Oct. 10, 1953 to Bertha Riley of Austin, Indiana, at the First Baptist Church in Scottsburg, Indiana. Lee worked as the head usher at the old Indiana Theatre and Scott Theatre for 15 years and also at the old U.S. Shoe Factory in Crothersville, Indiana. He retired in 1989 from Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Indiana, where he worked in Quality Control for 26 years. Lee was active in the Democrat Party for many years, serving as a Scott County Councilman for 8 years and a Scottsburg City Councilman for 15 years, He was a member of First Baptist Church in Scottsburg, Indiana since 1940, where he served as a Deacon and on many other committees for over 70 years. Lee was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a life and charter member of the Scott County V.F.W Post # 6582, a member of the American Legion Post # 234, the Odd Fellows Lodge # 555 for over 60 years joining in 1948 and the Scott County Genealogical Society. In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by four brothers: Ivan M., Orville, Harold and Forest Bridgewater and two sisters, Marjorie Cox and Freda Bobbitt. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Bertha Bridgewater; a son, Gregory Lee Bridgewater and wife Deborah of Huntington, West Virginia; a sister, Alberta Bridgewater of Scottsburg, Indiana; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann (Bridgewater) Sturm and her husband Robert of Hurricane, West Virginia and Brian Lee Bridgewater and his wife Karrah Aubry of Fayetteville, West Virginia and three great grandchildren, Tybenn, Ella and Eva Sturm. Funeral Service: 1:00 pm on Wednesday at Collins Funeral Home with burial and full military honors in Scottsburg Cemetery . Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday and after 11 AM on Wednesday.
