Lorene K. Smith, 87, of Austin, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at the Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born on August 12, 1931 in Harrison County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Amzie Hershall Rhodes and Elsie Kathleen (Crecelius) Rhodes and graduated from New Salisbury High School in 1949. Lorene worked as a laborer at the old I.C.I. Ammunition Plant in Charlestown, Indiana and also was a former employee of the old Colgate Palmolive Factory in Jeffersonville, Indiana. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church near Scottsburg, Indiana and enjoyed quilt making and crocheting. Lorene was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Thomas Smith on March 27, 2005 and a stepdaughter, Alice Berna. Survivors include a son, Joey Smith and his wife Gidget of Austin, Indiana; a stepdaughter, Georgia Campbell and her husband Sam of Austin, Indiana; two stepsons, Thomas R. Smith and his wife Trish of Scottsburg, Indiana and Andrew Smith and his wife Trish of Kent, Indiana; a brother: Wilson Rhodes of Corydon, Indiana and two grandchildren, Thomas Smith and Taylor Renee Guill.
