Marianna “Ann” Cole Hartley, 96, of Madison, Indiana, passed away on Friday, October 12, 2018 at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital in New Albany, Indiana surrounded by her family. She was born on August 3, 1922 in Madison, Indiana, the daughter of the late Philip Samuel Cole, 1st and Margaret Clarence (Wallace) Cole. She was married on Dec. 20, 1941 to William Lloyd Hartley, who passed away on Aug. 3, 2007. Ann was a freelance interior designer and also former co-owner of Hubbuch’s of Kentucky Interior Design in Owensboro, Kentucky. In addition, Ann had taught an Interior Design Class at Kentucky Wesleyan College also in Owensboro, Kentucky. She was a proud member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Madison, Indiana, where she had been very involved in all church activities. Ann also decorated the church and kept it updated. She was a horticulturist and a founding member of Valley Hills Garden Club in Madison, Indiana and a founding member of Phi Beta Psi Sorority in Clarksville, Indiana. Ann was a self-taught tour guide, and over the years had traveled all over Europe with a group of women called the Friendship Force. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jane Hartley Gift and three brothers, John, Charles Frederick and Philip Samuel Cole, II. Survivors include two sons, William Wesley Hartley of Vancouver, British Columbia and Steven Philip Hartley and wife G.G. of Clarksville, Indiana; five grandchildren, Virginia Ann Hartley-Frantz (Todd), Pamela Jane Hartley, Steven Philip Hartley, Jr. (Shana), Thomas Wayne Gift, Jr. (Meaghan) and Alexander Hartley Gift (Sarah); five and a half great grandchildren, Emily, Tyler, Jacob, Gabriella, Greyson and Marrett and numerous nieces and nephews.
