Raymond Coomer, Sr., 83 of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at The Waters of Scottsburg. He was born on January 10, 1934 in Little York, Indiana, the son of the late Leonard and Ollie (Barrett) Coomer. Raymond was a retired crew leader for the Indiana Department of Transportation Scottsburg (IN) District, a member of the Scottsburg Optimist Club, the Moose Family Center and the Sons of the American Legion Post # 234 in Scottsburg, Indiana. Raymond loved to play golf. Raymond was married on July 1975 to Ruth (Pearson) Poggel-Coomer, who passed away on May 22, 2011. In addition, he was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David W. Coomer; a brother, Johnnie Coomer and a sister, Dorothy Hickman. Survivors include a companion, Geraldine Coomer; two sons, James D. Coomer and his wife Jennifer of Scottsburg, Indiana and Raymond Coomer, Jr. and his wife Phyllys of Trinity, Texas; three stepsons, James F. Poggel, III and his wife Sally and Robert L. Poggel and his wife Wanda all of Scottsburg, Indiana and Timothy Poggel and his wife Ellen of Crothersville, Indiana; a stepdaughter, Peggy Maxfeldt and her husband Norman of San Antonio, Texas; two brothers, Jessie Coomer of Brooksville, Florida and Ray Coomer of Crothersville, Indiana; three sisters, Sadie Trapp, Lola Fay Catron and Lena Rose Catron all of Austin, Indiana; 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
