Virgil Barrett, 89, of Scottsburg, Indiana, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2015 at Scott Memorial Hospital. He was born in Owsley County, Kentucky, the son of the late Hayden Barrett and Cora (Mason) Barrett. Virgil was a retired farmer, a Baptist minister at several area churches and also drove a school bus for 28 years for Deputy Schools and Madison Consolidated Schools. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of W.W. II and a member of the old Deputy Masonic Lodge. Virgil was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Mae Barrett; a grandson, Dale Patrick Barrett; four brothers, Roy, Everett, Albert and Wilford “Buck” and two sisters, Eulaha Mae and Laura Myrtle. Survivors include two sons, Raymond Barrett and his wife Sharon of Greenwood, Indiana and Randy Barrett and his wife Alice of Bloomington, Indiana; a daughter, Katherine Barker and her husband Gerald of Kannapolis, North Carolina; a brother, Fred Barrett and his wife Alberta of Scottsburg, Indiana; seven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
